You’re in the Golden Age if you’re in your 50s.
You’re supposed to in the best shape of your life.
But let’s be honest, this isn’t all that true. You don’t really feel like you’re in the golden age and you definitely don’t feel like you’re in the best shape of your life.
If you’re feeling like this in your 50s, it would be wise of you to see your doctor and get medical tests done.
As men we don’t want to let anything get in the way of our manhood.
Some men feel that getting medical test will make them feel much less of a man. But that shouldn’t be the case.
Let’s take a look at the best medical tests to get in your 50s.
1. Screening for Colon Cancer
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that:
“Colorectal cancer almost always develops from precancerous polyps (abnormal growths) in the colon or rectum. Screening tests can find precancerous polyps, so that they can be removed before they turn into cancer. Screening tests can also find colorectal cancer early, when treatment works best.”
Even though you think that you don’t have colon cancer, it would be very wise just to get checked anyways. You really never know what is inside of you until you check.
1. Bone Density
As you age, your body starts to decline and so does your internal organs and bones.
Especially your bone density. According to National Osteoporosis Foundation, a bone density test can help you identify the following:
- Learn if you have weak bones or osteoporosis before you break a bone
- Predict your chance of breaking a bone in the future
- See if your bone density is improving, getting worse or staying the same
- Find out how well an osteoporosis medicine is working
- Let you know if you have osteoporosis after you break a bone
A bone density test will help you find out sooner so that you can treat it.
2. Sugar Level Test
A common disease that most men in their 50s are diagnosed with is diabetes.
Getting a sugar level test is important. According to Statista there are about .59 million people that died from diabetes in South East Asia alone.
That number should motivate you to get a sugar level test done sooner rather than later.
3. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test
A PSA test measures the level of PSA in a man’s blood. What is involved in a PSA test? According to National Cancer Institute, a blood sample is sent to a laboratory for analysis. The results are usually reported as nanograms of PSA per milliliter (ng/mL) of blood.
Getting a PSA test can help determine if you have prostate cancer cells developing in your body.
This test is a must for all men in their 50s should take. In fact, this test should be taken by men in all age groups.
4. Check Cholesterol Levels
High cholesterol in men, especially for men in their 50s, is very common. High cholesterol often leads to heart diseases and possible death. Doctors recommend for all men approaching their 50s to get their cholesterol checked.
Is It Really That Important?
Getting the medical check-ups can be frustrating and takes up time from your life.
But it is vital that you do make time to get checked up regularly. Medical check-ups are the best investment you can make in yourself and it shouldn’t be taken lightly.
